Our villages

The guide we propose is not a simple traditional guide: it aims to be a suggestion with a vocation, certainly tourist but above all cultural, social and educational. Wellbeing, knowledge and tourism in a unique and evocative setting that of the Riviera dei Fiori. Western Liguria has been classified by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) as one of the most important sites in the world: the level of biodiversity is considered equal to that of the Amazon.

Not only that: the area between Sanremo and Bordighera is the one in which there is the lowest temperature range in the entire Mediterranean basin. In other words, the one where the climate is most favorable. This is why the Riviera dei Fiori is the best climatic destination for all seasons. Tourism and psychophysical well-being: tourism is increasingly an activity of self-search - and of search for meaning. Based on the imagination, on expectations, on the dream and on the ambitions hidden within us. Here then the search for meaning becomes a search for self.

Often it was the tourists themselves, whether sedentary or regular ones, who took an interest in and pushed towards the valorisation of the native culture, transforming themselves into powerful agents of renewal and pushing for actions to protect not only the territory but also the local culture.

In recent years we have seen an increase in responsible tourism, sensitive to current issues and values centered on respect and solidarity.

Within responsible tourism, walking routes and urban trekking over medium-long distances, bike routes are among the favorite types: because the extended times allow anyone, even the most shy, to become part of a group and not to feel excluded; because the fatigue of walking or cycling requires rest periods that favor the understanding of the territory, its monuments, its traditions and its history; because it facilitates contact with those who live locally.

Experiences are built that will be remembered and that can be transformed into real training courses. In short, a territory of enormous historical, cultural and anthropological value waiting to be valorised. This new tourist identity is aimed above all at this type of "explorer" who will be able to find our culture and bring out stories that tell us who we are.

Perhaps this is what the tourist needs: to seek the essence, the meaning of existence, precisely. In the tourist experience we propose we are referring to a human being who increasingly searches for the internal environment to achieve harmony for himself and for his surroundings and to leave a richer legacy for future generations.

Montalto

Once upon a time there was a couple of young lovers who decided to crown their love with the sacred bond of marriage.

The families and friends of both were enthusiastic about the union, but the perfidious Count Oberto of Ventimiglia, lord of those lands, claimed to exercise the just primae noctis right with all the girls of marriageable age on his farms, including the young girl of our story.

So, to save the wedding, the two young lovers fled far away and, joined by friends and relatives, created the town of Montalto Ligure. These are the origins of Montalto Ligure, known as "The Land of Lovers" precisely because of its legend. A town of rough stone, where history seems to have stopped, as if by magic, at the beginning of the Middle Ages, Montalto Ligure, with its nostalgic Loggia degli Innamorati and the ancient parish church of San Giorgio, is truly a suggestive location for a couple of lovers, to visit perhaps on the occasion of San Valent

Triora

We have already talked about Triora, because "the town of the Witches" always deserves a separate mention, since its story is both among the most tragic and the most evocative that we could tell.

However, it is worth mentioning it in this list too, because it is one of the hamlets richest in bike routes and, in particular, the most difficult and adventurous ones: will you have the courage to face the challenge of the witches of Triora?

Taggia

Taggia is not a village, but rather a town, but we list it among our valid reasons for visiting the Ligurian hinterland because its special "zone" division makes it an ideal destination even for the most undecided: the part of the city close to of the sea, in fact, is entirely dedicated to seaside tourism, as well as hosting one of the most panoramic cycle paths in the whole of northern Italy, while the other - more reserved: more Ligurian, we might say with a hint of malice -, perched on the ridge of the Valle Argentina, looks with little sympathy at the revelry of the so-called "Arma di Taggia", the seaside hamlet, to dedicate itself instead to the cultivation of those more typically Ligurian virtues: good food, good wine and, in every single stone, echoes of history and legend.

Known for the Furgari (Fires) and San Benedeto Revelli which is celebrated every year throughout the month of February, with a story to be experienced and not just read.
